Within a group design project ‘Fierce’ is developed, which is a new incredibly personalized sports bra created by the (fictive) company ‘REINFORC3D’. REINFORC3D develops tailored bras generated on actual body scans to find the ultimate balance between damping and fixation. The bras are guaranteed to fit perfectly, yet their real qualities become apparent once you start to exercise.

A body scan of the customer is used to run a simulation. The algorithm of the simulation then returns the best performing pattern based on its damping and displacement. This pattern will be printed and covers the fabric of the bra with a special Arnitel™ antibacterial filament. The plastic pattern fixates parts of the bra with a high degree of granularity and will be optimized for every individual as such. This personalization of fixation will suit every sports woman, while women with a larger cup size, will benefit from it even more.

A customer journey is designed and a business plan is developed. For the customer it means, buying a well-tailored and optimized sports bra becomes a streamlined experience. From scanning in the store to wearing the bra, the user receives a highly personalized sports bra within 5 workdays.

Achievements

In line with my track, I practiced team leader skills within this project, being in charge of communication and collaboration, planning and organization within the team as well with external stakeholders. Furthermore, I had a guiding and leading role in the development of user tests, survey and the analyses of the outcomes. I loved to be in charge of all communication and collaboration with external parties, but I experienced it as a big challenge to execute a teamleader role while still being a team member as well. 

A preset adjustable measurement system is developed by me to automatically translate the body scan into useful data for the tailors. Next to that I worked on different types of algorithms and patterns, also usable to print without a fabric underlay. Being the person exactly in the middle of the development chain also caused a lot of effort as it is not easy to connect everything by programming to make it an automated proces.  As such I learned that especially at the overlapping field,  communication and a clear shared responsibility is essential.
