From Creative Ideas into Business - context
In line with the track 'Design Leadership and Entrepreneurship' I have chosen this course to gain more knowledge about the important steps to be taken in the proces from concept to market.
In this course Holst centre was involved who gave us the assignment to develop a valueproposition for 'Oled' which is a flat illuminating material.
In a group we came up with the concept of implementing it on snowboards, as oled then would get a fancy image. We created our company 'Innosix', and we called our board 'Barca'. Every week we had to present a new step in the development, as also external experts were involved who provided us with usefull feedback.
Achievements
By the stepwise approach of the topics I learned how to research and develop a business proposition investigating six important aspects of turning innovative concepts into business; concept, market, design, finance, organization an IP.
Furthermore, we learned how to create and present convincing business plans that attract investors’ attention. It was very refreshing and valuable that experts from outside the university were available, who could provide feedback from their own field of expertise thus supporting a more realistic picture of how those processes run in reality.
I have got a deeper understanding of the importance of how to position yourself in the market and I realized entrepreneurship goes beyond the value of the product, as the strengths of you and your team are of great importance. As such, this were also reflective moments for myself; at our department, we learn a bit from everything, but I certainly expect to need a team of experts at certain areas, when it comes to product development. I would like to grow in leadership, binding them all together and ensuring they all thrive well in their own field of expertise.
